Southern Poverty Law Center Smear

As those of you who hit the Remnant site for traditionalist news know, the despicable Southern Poverty Law Center has come out with a pack of lies about the traditionalist movement and the Remnant in particular. Do read the Remnant's initial article and Chris Ferrara's comments on it. Know thy enemy.

But, amidst the rage one naturally feels at being helpless to stop the evil of the world from closing in on the Church, even while one's shepherds are napping...or worse...one sentence near the end of Ferrara's article did cheer me:
...a few crackpots who call themselves traditionalists are nothing compared with the legions of crackpots who have celebrated the sacking of the Roman liturgy and the near-total destruction of the Church militant over the past forty years. They comprise a movement all Catholics, not just traditionalists, should have been opposing from the moment it began.

The Remnant, founded by Walter Matt, most closely reflected my views of the Catholic Church over the past 40 years. Walter's son, Michael Matt, has developed into a worthy successor.

What a terrible and untrue accusation that The Remnant is close to anti-Jew Nazism when its founders have always taken great pride in their newspaper heritage of being banned in Nazi Germany [The Wanderer Newspaper].

Generally speaking, I think Catholics need to become more aware of Jewish anti-Catholicism; and they need to start condemning it when instances of it happen.

Any anti-semitic behaviors that the church may have evinced in the past cannot be used to silence our defense of ourselves now; and anyone who suggests such a thing, in my opinion, needs to become better versed in how badly Christians (and particularly Catholics) have been treated in the past by Jews.

So, let's be fair: Let's guard against thoughts or behaviors of anti-semitism amongst ourselves, and let's defend ourselves vigorously against Jewish bigots. As far as I'm concerned, those who were named in this article have an excellent opportunity to sue the dickens out of the SPLC for blatant defamation of character.

And anyone who belongs to the various SSPX, ICR, or FSSP missions should petition the supreme courts of the land for class-action status as it regards the defamation of these organizations and their adherents.

In short: It's time to sue the SPLC for several hundred millions of dollars, and to teach them to shut their filthy, bigoted mouths about Catholics.

Yeah, but who's gonna underwrite the litigation? It ain't free, man, and we don't have pockets of cash from leftist foundations to fund it.

Actually, there are several law firms and organizations that represent Christian/Catholic legal issues (that I know of):

Christian Legal Society
http://www.clsnet.com/

Christian Legal Resources, Inc.
http://clrkc.org/

Alliance Defense Fund
http://www.alliancedefensefund.org/main/default.aspx

The Rutherford Institute
http://www.rutherford.org/

American Center for Law & Justice
http://www.aclj.org/

http://www.christianlaw.org/
Christian Law Association

National Legal Foundation

Personally, I feel that what the SPLC has done here is so 'over the top', I'd be surprised if the persons named DIDN'T sue for damages due to the SPLC's defamation of their character.

Let's face it: Had a Christian organization wrote something as defamatory as what the SPLC wrote, there would literally be thousands of law suits. There already ARE thousands of lawsuits against Christians/Catholics, BECAUSE Christians/Catholics rarely (if ever) defend themselves.

This isn't about getting even. This is simply about learning how to play ball. Turning the other cheek to your opponent is wise advice. But allowing the law to be used in a frivolous manner against your fellow Christians/Catholics is quite another matter. I feel that it would be a sin of OMISSION to not do anything about what the SPLC has written here; and the future treatment of Christians in this country will, to some extent, depend on how we defend ourselves now.

The SPLC has broken the law here, and it is O.K. to defend ourselves from this. Part of the reason one sees things like this attack from the SPLC, and all the rest of the pronounced bigotry we see against Christians in this country, is because we do nothing about it.

Christians wrote the laws that make this the greatest country on earth; and yet, they are typically afraid to use the law to defend themselves. Most Christians, I believe, never dreamed of a time when they would need the law for themselves.

I guess those days are here.
