John Wilkes Booth was several years too late.

Today is the birthday of one of the most evil men to ascend to the upper eschelons of power in the United States, but of course, most of the damned fools who comprise the modern mob--who are the victims of government education--and Catholic education, come to think of it--think he's a hero.

He was a reprehensible excuse for a human being. A scoundrel. A wretch. A tyrant. A murderer.

Every evil that we suffer today in this country has advanced because of him, in furtherance of his dream of turning a federation of sovereign states into a single monolithic government, with handouts for pet industries (then the railroads; now Halliburton). Although the politically correct academy won't dare tell the real story of the Civil War and Reconstruction, he was to the United States what Lenin was for Russia, save only that the succession of Stalin is happening here only by degrees and by decades. He was a bastard.

It would be a sin for me to publicly speculate that he's in hell, and even a more serious sin for me to take any pleasure from the thought of his eternal punishment. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other reason not to engage in such speculation, or such pleasure. But of course, that's enough reason, so I won't.

But suffice it to say that when the government of the United States finally collapses, as did Rome, if nobody beats me to it, I'll be there in Washington with a bulldozer powered by whatever diesel I can barter, to reduce his memorial (and Grant's) to rubble.

Yes, I have heard of it.

Have you heard of this? "I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere withthe institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so." Lincoln's first inaugural address, in The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, , ed. Roy Basler (New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers Univ. Press 1953), p. 580. There are more such quotations along those lines. Slavery (chattel slavery at least....nevermind industrialist wage slavery) was wiped out in most of the world in the 19th century, largely through gradual or compensated emancipation, and only in the United States did it serve as a pretext to total war.

And no, it was not inherently wrong of the bastard Lincoln to want to preserve the union. It was reprehesible, and downright evil, for him to act to preserve the union by force, at the cost of war. Membership in the Union was voluntary, and states were and still are (in justice if not in practice) still sovereign. Many states, the their legislative acts ratifying the Constitution of 1789, expressly reserved the right to withdraw, and the others did not because that right is implicit. And, only a short time before the War of Northern Aggression broke out, industrialized northern states met to consider secession because they weren't getting their way in imposing protectionist tarriffs that would be borne by the agricultural south, they didn't like the Louisiana Purchase and the rise of power among the western states, and other reasons.

The bastard Lincoln violated the Tenth Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." Succession is not mentioned in the constitution; therefore it was (and still is, notwithstanding the Fourteenth Amendment--which was never properly ratified, BTW) lawful.

And here's a good quotation, not from a founding father (vitually all of whom, including Madison and Hamilton, expressly acknowledged the right to secession), but from another influential figure of the 1860s:

Any people anywhere, being inclined and haveing the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right--a right which we hope and believe is the liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can, may revoluntionize, and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit.

Now I'm not sure, as a Catholic who has at least a vague understanding of social order, I would go so far as to agree with that statement myself, but I would think it's rather a pursuasive statement in favor of secession, since it was spoken by the bastard himself, Abraham Lincoln, in 1848.

And, please please God, we shall see another attempt at secession in the coming decades, so that the states of Sodom and Gamorrah (Mass. and Calif.) can go on their merry way to hell without dragging the rest of us along.

Hey, Slackjaw, I didn’t think you had books wherever you come from.

The above quote by Lincoln about not interfering with slavery in the slave states was made in reference to a president's constitutional powers during a period of peace. Further, Lincoln did hold that slavery was wrong. Over and over again he made this clear. He gave quotes such as "if slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong." While he may have recognized a constitutional power of the states to belong to a union freely, he would have firmly recognized that the only rights the Constitution ensures are those given by God. The greatest and most legitimate purpose of government is the protection of those rights. God given rights were being violated. This situation of those being held without will for the purpose of others superseded any belief that Lincoln had in the right of secession.
1. Even if it was conceded that Lincoln acted unconstitutionally, he didn't start the unconstitutional business. It was started with Dred Scot. That is clear from the Federalist Papers.
I wish I were a better apologist for Mr. Lincoln. In fact, the speaker at the Latin Mass dinner this year (although not speaking on this subject) is one of the greatest Lincoln apologists that I know personally. Honestly, I learned in a quite liberal Catholic high school (think all girls) that there were different causes to the war. This man showed me otherwise. I leave you with these words of Lincoln, "With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds."

What poppycock! (Gee, it sounds a lot like several more recent Presidents that I know of, some of whom ain't so dead yet: Throwin' their power around places that the government of the United States doesn't belong, directly and by client states, and then using the justly inspired--if not justly executed--reaction to their meddling to cast off even more of the vestiges of limited government? You probably buy into the "destroy the constitution in order to save it" garbage too. You probably are happy gettin' groped and dehydrated at the airports!

It amazes me to the lengths otherwise intelligent people will go to hold onto the Americanist lies they were taught in grade school. Lincoln didn't give a damn about slavery. He held the negroes in contempt. They were a pawn that he used to advance the "American System" he learned from the likewise-reprehensible Henry Clay, and to pave the way for his wealthy railroading and canal-building friends to dip into the public trough (gee, that trend hasn't continued, has it? http://www.kansasspeedway.com).

The homosexual agenda is to claim anyone around who is not able to defend themselves. That is ridiculous. They have claimed everyone from Michaelanglo to Richard the Lionhearted. That has being going on since I was in college which was a long, long time ago.

I have never said that I would destroy the Constitution to save it. I think that I would be in quandry if ask to sign a federal ban on partial birth abortion. What would you do?

Also, did you take it that I said you weren't being civil. I didn't. I said I signed my name so I kept civil and not to be a wimp. And I am not planning to burn down your house. I don't know what bad things the government has done to you but I know that I have had my share. I do sympathize if you have.

I'm hesitant to engage in Sobran-esque worship of the Constitution. By the standards of Enlightened Man It's a grand document and is the law of the land, but it didn't come down from Mount Sinai. It rejects the Sovereignty of Christ as King and Mary as Queen. It rejects any notion of Catholic Church as the New Israel and God's Church on Earth.

Who’s to say that Lincoln was right or wrong? By the standard of the US Constitution - ok, you may be correct in that he exceeded the limits of his office.

The nation was off to the wrong start from the beginning, however, in its founding in judeo-masonry, anti-catholic bigotry, deism, and radical libertinism. So who can say point the finger at Lincoln as the main villain here?

The states are "so-called" sovereign in the Constitution. And yes, the federal government was established for the limited purposes enumerated in the Constitution, not for the curing of all moral or political ills, no matter how bad. It simply did not have plenary power. Any more than the USCCB has plenary power in the Church (and thank God for that!)

Under the Constitution, the people of Massachusetts, or a cabal of judges appointed by the federal president, have no more right to force abortion on the people of Kansas than they have the right to prevent it in Portugal. It's really that simple. Actually, it's simpler than that. The Constitution acknowledged the existence of slavery; tolerance of it was a foundational point of the Union. Therefore the federal government had no business interfering with it. The people of the several southern states certainly did (and should have, and undoubtedly, one by one, would have). But John Brown did not. The lamplighter in Boston did not. And Abraham Lincoln did not.

I don't worship the Constitution. It was obviously inadequate to maintain temporal order, and it was subject to manipulation, as we see from the way the leviathan federal government has worked its way into our lives. But I do expect government officials to abide by it. As for acknowledging the Kingship of Christ, of course it did not, and we thank God that it did not attempt any sort of religious establishment, because such an establishment would surely have been heretical, if not deistic and masonic. But as written, it made it possible for any state that wished to do so. Until Lincoln came along, there remained the possibility of a Catholic state being formed, and Louisiana was largely so (Maryland doesn't count, of course, because the Catholic regime had long been o'erthrown there). Lincoln's tyranny, set in motion a course of events that left a permanent strangle-hold on any such efforts, and the result is that now, overreaching federal law would prevent us from having a Catholic neighborhood, much less a Catholic state.

So the end result, Mr. Publius, sir, is that any thinking person has the right to say Lincoln was wrong, and I do, too!

No, I'm not "prowling" gay blogs for dirt on Lincoln. I just did a Lincoln blogsearch to see if anyone detested him more than I did, and I stumbled across the referenced post. They make a pretty good case of it, really. Lots of unnecessary and regular bed-sharing by Lincoln and other men. And would you be surprised? He was an immoral man in the pay of Mammon (which, at the time, was the Illinois Central Railroad). I don't know whether he was a Freemason, but he was godless, and irreverent, his occasional flourishes of public piety notwithstanding.
